UNDEMOCRATIC PROVISIONAL LOCAL 221

Even Full Members have lost their right to vote for the office of President of Local 221 under provisional status imposed by the International in 2007.

Provisional status could continue until 2010. Only until a new constitution and bylaws are ratified by the membership can an election for president be held.

CR members were promised a new constitution and new bylaws, along with elections for president that would occur within one year of provisional status, but that did not happen. Then members were promised this would occur before the end of 2008 according to the President’s 2008 letter posted on the SEIU website.

Many CR members were hoping these promises would be kept before county contract negotiations started in 2009. So far progress is very, very slow with no elections in sight.
